Offered up for your consideration is a hard to find March 19, 1968 St. Joseph’s Day blessed gold gilded bronze medal issued by the Greater New Orleans Italian Cultural Society. This medal also honors the 250th Anniversary of New Orleans. A great piece of New Orleans, Catholic Italian history. Each medal was blessed prior to public release. Medal shows age and storage wear to include bag scratching to the surface, gilding wear and loses and edge dings. Polish up or leave as is.

Since the late 1800’s when Sicilian immigrants settled in New Orleans, March 19th has been a day of honor to St. Joseph for the relief provided during a famine in Sicily. Since that time, Catholics of all heritages have come together in New Orleans to celebrate St. Joseph’s day. This blessed medal is part of that very long tradition.
